Everyone in our community and neighbourhood is invited to join in this unique event. A beautiful meal, part pot luck and part cooked on our barbeque, was presented. Most people dressed in their best, including special hats! The Big Lunch began in the U.K. and has spread world wide. St. David's was the first to present it here in B.C. This year the Big Lunch included a piper, entertainment, and the planting of a hawthorne tree. This planting celebrates "The Queens Canopy" an initiative started in 2015 to create a network of forest conservation programmes throughout the 54 counties of the Commonwealth of Nations. This year we honoured Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubliee.
